International Women’s Day: The Mental Load Gap - and What We Can Do About It

There’s what people see.
And then there’s what you carry in your head.

The dentist appointment that needs booking.
The birthday gift you still have to order.
The deadline next week.

Mental load isn’t just doing things.
It’s remembering them. Anticipating them. Thinking three steps ahead so nothing falls apart.

And even in 2026, women still carry most of it.

What makes mental load heavy isn’t the tasks themselves.
It’s the constant background processing — the feeling that if you stop thinking, something will drop.

When I spoke to Ellen from Bewusstsein Space about this, she put it simply:

“Mental load lives in the constant mental loop of everything that still needs to be done. When your mind never gets a real pause, it keeps your nervous system in a state of stress — and over time that can lead to exhaustion or burnout.”

One surprisingly effective first step: get things out of your head and onto paper.
Writing things down and sharing responsibilities can already release a lot of mental pressure.

Because when everything lives in your head, your brain believes it has to keep holding it.

The Poppy Pink Belonging Bracelet is meant to be a small reminder to pause — and to remember that you belong to yourself first.

In light of International Women’s Day on March 8th, we’re donating 20% of all Poppy Pink Belonging Bracelet sales to the Arbeitskreis Frauengesundheit, an organization advocating for gender-equitable and holistic healthcare for women and girls.

Because none of us should have to carry everything alone. 💗
